I first came across this concept while playing God of War Ragnarok, a fleeting 1 min cutscene (cutscene attached at the end of this post) had something that I consider profound and of immense value for anyone trying to use logic and first principles to understand how things work.

Focus on the nature of things rather than is form is a concept I would argue is the very nature of human innovation, for if we had only seen fire as a means to cook food (focus on the form of fire) we would not have rockets to space (the result of the understanding of the nature of fire).

Understanding the nature of things can be important for a variety of reasons. Here are a few possible arguments for the importance of understanding the nature of things rather than just their form:

  1. Understanding the nature of things allows us to better understand the world around us. By examining the inherent properties and characteristics of things, we can gain a deeper understanding of how they work and interact with one another. This can help us to better understand the natural world and the various phenomena that occur within it.

  2. Understanding the nature of things can help us to make more informed decisions. If we understand the nature of something, we can better understand its potential consequences and implications. For example, if we understand the nature of a particular chemical, we can better evaluate its safety and potential risks.

  3. Understanding the nature of things can help us to appreciate the complexity and beauty of the world around us. By examining the inherent properties and characteristics of things, we can gain a greater appreciation for the intricate and interconnected nature of the world.

  4. Understanding the nature of things can help us to identify and address problems or issues more effectively. By understanding the root causes of problems or issues, we can more effectively devise solutions that address those root causes rather than just the symptoms.

Ultimately, understanding the nature of things can help us to develop a deeper understanding of the world around us and to make a more informed and thoughtful decisions.

This is the fleeting 1 min-cut scene that gave birth to this piece. Enjoy!
